Where is the Monster Hunter Wilds Tracktail Lizard? The monsters might steal the spotlight in Capcom’s hunting RPG, but endemic life is just as valuable. These small critters are hard to find, but catching them is the prime objective in many side missions in the Forbidden Lands.
The Monster Hunter Wilds Tracktail Lizard is one such species. You must catch one to complete “Dareel’s Research Report,” one of the first RPG game. You can pick it up from Dareel in the Windward Plains base camp, and while he does offer you a clue to the Tracktail Lizard location, it’s up to you to find it
Where to find the MH Wilds Tracktail Lizard
The best place to find Tracktail Lizards is in Windward Plains, beside the Area 13: Oasis Campsite pop-up camp location.
If you’ve already established a pop-up camp at the Oasis, you can use MH Wilds map to set a waypoint for your Seikret to follow.
Tracktail Lizards congregate in pairs along the oasis shoreline, so take care not to disturb them once you arrive at your destination. If there aren’t any Tracktail Lizards at the oasis, head east towards Area 16. The cave entrance on the left is a common Tracktail Lizard spawn point.
Tracktail Lizards wander out in the open, so they shouldn’t be too difficult to spot in the terrain. They either crawl along the floor on their bellies, or stand tall on their tails on the lookout for potential threats.
You can also equip your Binoculars to scan the environment for large handprints in the sand – while they might look like monster tracks, it’s actually the mark left by the Tracktail Lizard’s tail.
How do I catch a Tracktail Lizard?
Once you’ve located a Tracktail Lizard, it’s time to catch it. Press ‘C’ to equip your Ghillie Mantle and crouch to avoid scaring off your target. Once you’re close enough, equip your Capture Net via the item bar, aim, and shoot.
Since Tracktail Lizards often stand close together, it’s possible to capture two in one cast of your net. However, if you do miss, they’ll quickly burrow under the sand and wait for you to leave. If this occurs, continue your search elsewhere.
Now you’ve bagged a Tracktail Lizard in Monster Hunter Wilds, report back to Dareel for your reward. Completing this quest also unlocks the Samin’s Research Report side mission, which sends you on the hunt for a MH Wilds Sandstar if you just can’t get enough of endemic life research.
