Looking for a Monster Hunter Wilds map for every region? As the biggest Monster Hunter title yet, you might be a bit overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the five explorable regions. In some cases, regions also have three to four different levels, but we’ve provided details on each map and how to navigate them.
The expansive map isn’t the only feature in Heavy Bowgun. Finally, don’t worry too much about exploring the map until you complete the 20-hour main campaign, as that’s when new resources and monsters become available.
Monster Hunter Wilds Windward Plains map
The Windward Plains serve as the starting area in the game and as one of the easiest to navigate. You’ll find narrow ages where Chatacabra dwell to the northeast of the base camp and a sprawling field with plenty of endemic life to the northwest; there’s also Kunafa Village nearby where you can find specialized traders and some side quests after you reach Chapter 4 of the main story.
Near area 17 at the top of the map you’ll also find a route up a mountain that leads to an Ancient Wyvern Coin and several key resources. Finally, the sand dunes to the north are great for sliding down to attack monsters; however, they also impair movement.
Windward Plains Level 1
This sub-level is home to Bahalara, which you can access from both the Oasis in the dunes and from a cave system near area 13 and another entrance north of area 12.
Windward Plains Level 3
There is an area where Gypceros dwell above the cave system accessed from area 1 on the map. There are quite a lot of bone-related resources up there, too.
The apex monster of this region is Rey Dau, a lightning-wielding dragon that turns its head into a massive cannon, though you’ll also fight the penultimate monster in the game, Arkveld, here during the course of the story.
The Inclemency Event that occurs in this region is a massive lightning sandstorm called Sandtide. It’s possible to lure monsters near large pillars spread across the plain to shock them; however, watch out as you can be shocked yourself.
Monster Hunter Wilds Scarlet Forest map
The Scarlet Forest doesn’t have a large settlement like the other maps; however, the Wudwuds make their home here near the center of the forest and have both traders and side quests available after you clear Chapter 4 of the main story. They live on the upper level near area 14 on the map.
Scarlet Forest Level 1
The Scarlet Forest only has two levels: the base level full of Congalala and stalking Lala Barina with an upper level above a waterfall where you’ll face the region’s apex monster, Uth Duna. During the Season of Plenty (after the Inclemency Event), one of the best areas to farm honey to make Mega Potions is near area 7.
Scarlet Forest Level 2
Here you’ll find the Uth Duna arena marked by the greyed-out icons just above area 17, here you’ll be able to pull down ruins on top of the monster when it jumps into the water. The Wudwuds village is also accessible to the south.
For the Inclemency Event, the Scarlet Basin undergos a Downpour and Uth Duna appears. Flooded pools slow your movement and make you far more prone to getting hit. Uth Duna also leaps into the large pools of water, causing damaging tides that push you away from it. It’s best to use the terrain to avoid these rolling waves when possible. Uth Duna itself is a large but rather slow monster; if you keep your distance and wait for its water-shield to go down, you shouldn’t have an issue taking it on.
Monster Hunter Wilds Oilwell Basin map
The Oilwell Basin is home to the Everforge east of the base camp. There, you can speak with the smelter to forge Armor Spheres from monster parts you do not require. There are also plenty of side missions and traders here that unlock once you clear Chapter 4 of the main story.
Oilwell Basin Level 2
There are three sprawling levels full of fire-themed monsters in the Oilwell Basin, along with thick, flammable oil to traverse through. Level 2 sees the most oil you’ll encounter. It’s highly advised not to wear armor with negative fire resistance when hunting multiple monsters in this area, like Ajarakan, as they’ll power up and use fire-based attacks during hunts.
Oilwell Basin Level 1
During the Firespring Inclemency Event, magma runs through the Oilwell Basin, particularly on the bottom level. Stepping on this Magma does damage to your hunter; the heat drains your health unless you drink a Cool Drink to stave it off. Thankfully, Alma provides Cool Drinks during hunts.
With the Firespring comes Nu Udra, a cephalopod monster that – of course – also bursts into flames periodically. Its long tentacles can trap your hunter in pools of magma, so make sure you stay away from walls while you fight it.
Monster Hunter Wilds Iceshard Cliffs map
The Iceshard Cliffs is perhaps the most confusing map to navigate. While it only has three floors, they’re all sprawling and interconnected with floating ruins. Both freeze-themed monsters and spidery Nerscylla lurk in the Iceshard Cliffs, meaning you’re not just contending with the cold. It’s a good idea not to wear armor that has negative resistance to cold here as pretty much every monster except Nerscylla has frost attacks.
Iceshard Cliffs Level 2
There isn’t a specific settlement here either; however, Rove the wizard-hat wearing Wudwud makes his home on the second level, and he’ll offer you both side missions and reprieve from the cold in his little abode near area 20 in the middle level.
Iceshard Cliffs Level 1
There are also a couple great fishing spots on the base level of the Iceshard Cliffs, making it a great place to stock up on food for future meals.
The Frostwinds Inclemency Event will see the temperature drop, meaning you’ll have to down Hot Drinks to avoid constant drain to your stamina. Luckily, you can make these by collecting Hot Peppers found throughout the area. If you forget, Alma periodically provides you with Hot Drinks during hunts.
During the Frostwinds, the massive leviathan, Jin Dahaad, awakens, giving you access to perhaps the most epic fight in Monster Hunter Wilds through the assignments menu. When Jin Dahaad charges up a massive snowstorm, make sure to pull down floating ice shards to hide behind before he unleashes it – it’s usually a one-hit KO on your hunter.
Monster Hunter Wilds Ruins of Wyveria map
The Ruins of Wyveria is the last explorable map with monsters in it you’ll encounter in the game, and despite being four floors, it’s easy enough to navigate as it’s more of a spiral down to the bottom where the guardian cocoons reside.
Wyveria Level 3
The monsters here are typically associated with the Dragon element, so you’ll want to have resistance against it – or at least not negative resistance. While the third level has lots of space and resources, the lower levels are rather narrow, making fights against more than one monster difficult.
Wyveria Level 2
For non-Guardian type monsters in the area, the tricky Xu Wu makes its home on the second level; otherwise, this place is packed wall-to-wall with Guardian monsters like Guardian Fulgar Anjananth and Guardian Arkveld.
Wyveria Level 1
Finally the bottom level houses a handful of powerful Guardian monsters and the final boss of the main story quest, Zoh Shia.
For its Inclemency Event called Wyvern’s Stirring, more Guardian monsters will appear and certain cocoons in the sublevels can hatch Guardian monsters to hunt.
And that’s all that we’ve found in the five major hunting maps in Monster Hunter Wilds. Now you’re ready to explore, here are the Monster Hunter Wilds monsters you’ll come up against and the best weapon builds to take them on.
