Oblivion Remastered leaks
There were whispers about Oblivion Remastered from as early as 2020, but like with most rumors, it all seemed a bit too good to be true. The rumors began to resurface once again in 2023 thanks to a post on the Elder Scrolls subreddit from an ex-employee at Virtuos.
Over the past few months, talk about Oblivion Remastered started to gain traction, with some journalists suggesting it could launch in the first half of 2025. On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Mattmo831 on Resetera discovered multiple Oblivion Remastered images hosted on Virtuos’ website with the project name Altar in the URL, confirming the leak from 2023.
Oblivion Remastered uses Unreal Engine 5 to enhance the game’s visuals. The Reddit leak from 2023 states the remastered version is running Unreal Engine 5 alongside the original code, meaning there shouldn’t be many differences between the original and the remaster.
In a side-by-side comparison with the original game and the leaked screenshots, it looks like Virtuos has adjusted the color grading to give Oblivion a warmer look overall. With that said, this could be the result of Unreal Engine 5’s dynamic lighting system.
As initially reported by MP1ST, Oblivion Remastered does feature some tweaks to bring aspects of the 2006 smash hit up to modern standards. This includes changes to the HUD to make certain elements clearer for new players, adjustments to the stamina system to make it less punishing, and most importantly, tweaks to the combat that are “inspired by Souls-like games.”
