Bleach Rebirth of Souls release date
Bleach Rebirth of Souls released on Friday, March 21, 2025. The game launched on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Rebirth of Souls was initially announced back in July 2024. Since then, the game’s YouTube playlist has been filled with character reveal trailers, sneak peeks at tracks from its OST, and even an opening movie. Suffice it to say, it’s unsurprising that a concrete release date was quickly slapped on at The Game Awards 2024, considering the sheer amount of content made available.
Not counting the recent port for the mobile gacha game Bleach: Brave Souls, Rebirth of Souls marks the first major console release for the legendary franchise since 2011 hack ‘n slash Soul Resurrección.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailers
We’ve been treated to four Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailers and an opening movie – the first being the original announcement trailer. Kicking us off with a recreation of that fated meeting between Ichigo and Rukia, the stylish trailer reintroduces us to the major players in the Agent of the Shinigami arc, including Chad, Orihime, Ishida, Yoruichi, Renji, and Byakuya.

At the end of July, Bandai Namco released a brief overview introducing us to the core tenets of Rebirth of Souls’ gameplay. Here we can see Ichigo take on Byakuya, with the pair unleashing their Bankai as they go band for band. However, the marketing machine hadn’t revealed all of its cards just yet…

September 2024 brought with it not only a more concrete 2025 release window for Rebirth of Souls, but also the reveal of the game’s most exciting mechanic: Reawakening. This teaser brings us to the iconic battle between Ichigo and Ulquiorra – you know, the one where our boy is temporarily turned into a donut. Here, we can see both combatants transform into their ultimate forms.

Next up we have Rebirth of Souls’ opening movie; a contrast-filled introduction that spotlights Ichigo’s gang, Byakuya, and Renji, alongside glimpses of the Gotei 13 captains and even a sneaky shot of the Hogyoku.
Finally, the TGA 2024 release date trailer follows on from the announcement trailer, focusing on the story beats from the Soul Society Rescue arc as Ichigo and Co. rush to prevent Rukia’s execution. Here we get to hear more from the various voice actors contributing their talents to the game as we shift from shot to shot of the Gotei 13’s heaviest hitters.

As previously noted, the Bandai Namco YouTube channel has slowly filled up with character reveal trailers. One of the final characters to be showcased was Tier Halibel (interestingly using the spelling ‘Halibel’ rather than ‘Harribel’, which we typically see used for the Tres Espada).

Bleach Rebirth of Souls gameplay
Bleach Rebirth of Souls features a single-player story mode as well as multiplayer battles. The official site has confirmed that the story mode concludes with the defeat of Aizen at the end of the Arrancar: Downfall arc. It’s currently unclear whether the Fullbring and Thousand-Year Blood War arcs will eventually be added as DLC, though cosmetic costumes for the latter have already been revealed.
You can also “unlock deeper insights into the characters of Bleach” through the game’s Secret Story mode.
The gameplay itself is strictly 1v1, with characters permanently locked onto each other as they are in other fighters like Tekken. The closest point of comparison is Dragon Ball Sparking Zero – also published by Bandai Namco – as both games utilize airborne combat. This is achieved by channeling Reishi into your feet.
During each fight, you must deplete the enemy’s Reishi (health bar). Completely depleting a bar will take away one Konpaku (life point). The first player to lose all of their Konpaku loses. While swinging your Zanpakuto at each other is the fundamental mode of combat, you can also utilize hand-to-hand techniques, Kido, and character-exclusive techniques throughout each battle. If you’re getting battered, there’s also a Reverse Fate mechanic that gives you an extra power boost, though this manifests differently depending on your fighter.
The real spice in Rebirth of Souls’ combat system is its Awakening and Reawakening systems, which dramatically power up each fighter. You can tap into these power-ups when the Morale Gauge fills, presenting a glowing ‘Evolution’ badge on screen. While every character appears to have an Awakening, only select characters have a Reawakening – a secondary evolution of immense power.
