How long is Avowed? Obsidian Entertainment isn’t known for pumping out 100-hour-plus RPGs, and for time-strapped writers such as ourselves, that’s pretty darn neat. Avowed isn’t set to buck the trend, but that’s not to say the Pillars of Eternity spinoff won’t have plenty in store for you to get on with in the Living Lands.
With a focus on quality over quantity, Obsidian has once again delivered an imaginative, fun-filled Avowed. But just how long exactly is it? Well, now the Avowed release date is here, we can tell you exactly how long you’ll be returning to Eora for.
Avowed length
Avowed takes 15-20 hours to complete, though this is for the main story alone. A completionist run will take over 40 hours to clear. These timings are based on our own experience with the game.
According to PCGamesN’s Lauren Bergin (Avowed review writer and certified cool person), Avowed’s story took the lower end of this time range to clear on an easier difficulty, with the odd side quest completed here and there. As such, expect to spend a few more hours blitzing through the main quest if you’re playing on harder difficulties.
This aligns with what Avowed game director Carrie Patel previously told Game Informer in 2024 when she likened its scope to Obsidian sci-fi mini-epic The Outer Worlds.
“The best comparison for Avowed in of scope is The Outer Worlds,” Patel told the now-shuttered outlet. “Players can expect a roughly similar experience, just like The Outer Worlds, depending on what kind of difficulty they play on, and how thoroughly they explore and invest inside content, versus just sticking to the main crit path missions.”
Our The Outer Worlds review run, which included side content, took roughly 25 hours to clear. However, if you make a beeline down the main story path and ignore everything else, you can comfortably complete the game in 15 hours. Hunting down all the achievements in The Outer Worlds, meanwhile, takes roughly 40 hours of solid play.
Regardless of the particulars, you’re looking at a relatively compact experience that you can leisurely play through over a weekend – lovely stuff.
